No Gun Salute was conceived in late 2016, when two long-time acquaintances -meeting for the first time in 10 years- exchanged thoughts about non-rock music in a rock club backstage in Helsinki. Guitar player Kari Kielosto (Kvarter, Sergio) and saxophonist Janne Martinkauppi (Can Can Heads, Gunk, Rime, Mohel) later decided to go beyond words and set out to play notes they felt needed playing, to create music they wanted to hear themselves.

The natural and pretty much unplanned sound of the duo turned out to be primitive, yet beautiful and profoundly human. The music that comes out tends to be minimalistic, sometimes monumental, cinematic, sometimes unsettling, sometimes unsettlingly slow, with echoes of spiritual jazz, classical music and dark folk.

Garage classical.

The eponymous debut album (recorded in 2017-2018) is a meditation on an age old tragedy best known from the medieval tale of Tristan & Iseult.

The album will be also available as a double-LP with sturdy tip-on sleeves later in 2020, edition of 300 copies.
